Stoli’s Koh Samui Diving Woof and Weather

Whoa boy.  What a busy month we’ve had here at Discovery Divers.  My head is still spinning.  Good thing that the diving has been so busy because my other project didn’t work out so well.  As most of you who follow my blog will remember, I started my business promoting boxing matches between dogs and cats.  Well, things were going great and we even tried to get big name sponsors for our fights.  unfortunately, knucklehead Tong Naam reached out to PETA as a sponsor.  That did not go so well and we ended up getting shut down.

Even with the let down there I have been really busy teaching PADI diving courses here at Discovery.  Today I just finished 4 open waters and congratulations to Pia, Chloe, Caitlin, and Vaughn on completing their PADI open water course with me.  Of course I had Takeshi and Allie assisting me so they could learn something.  YOu can see the picture of me and the group after the dive today.

We have done close to 100 certifications already this month, but because we have 10 full-time instructors we are still able to keep the groups very small with usually a 2:1 student instructor ratio and never more than 4 in a group.  We have been running 2-3 boats a day, and then again never with more than 12 divers on board unlike the other crowded boats on the island.

Other than that, I have been working on another project that is almost ready and I’ll let you in on that one later in the week.  The weather has been beautiful here on Koh Samui with daily high temps around 32, so it has not been that hot.  We have had the occasional rain shower late in the afternoon, but that is only about an hour and then it clears right back up.  More of the same weather is forecasted for the coming week.  A great time to come out to Samui and go diving with us here at Discovery Divers.

Now I got to go grab a shower and get some rest for another busy day tomorrow.

Ok, so I can finally tell you my secret project.  I am becoming a fight promoter.  Of course to be successful, I have to look the part like my mentor, Don King.  I have started promoting fights here in Koh Samui between cats and dogs.  We have a great card coming up on Friday here at my new Baan Sathon stadium on Choeng Mon beach.

Deng Mo   vs.   Tabby

Tong Naam  vs   Tinkerbell

Andra    vs  Boots

Tickets are 300 baht or a piece of chicken will do for admission.

Other than that I have been so busy with the diving at Discovery Divers.  I can’t believe how busy we are now with high season in full swing.  We have been running 2 speedboats everyday with one to Sail Rock and one to Koh Tao, but with our 10 full-time instructors we can still keep those small intimate dive groups.  We have also completed over 30 PADI certifications this month alone.  Also, the bad weather is behind us now and the diving conditions are getting really good again.  Sail Rock was beautiful today with 15-20 meter vis, and the Koh Tao sites we did today (Mango bay, HIn Wong Pinnacle and Shark Island) were all outstanding.

On to the weather, it has been really nice with sun during the day and a little bit of rain late in the afternoon and evening.  Of course who cares about that.  On our fast speedboats, we are already home before any of the weather comes.  Looks like more of the same weather for the coming week.

Well, I am off to sell some tickets for Friday so

Stoli’s Koh Samui diving Woof and weather

A big surprise today at the Discovery divers shop here in Koh Samui.  Those of you who remember the movie “Big Daddy” with Adam Sandler, Julian from the movie came in.  It also looks like he was finally able to join Scuba Steve and the scuba squad.  He even let us take his picture for my blog.

Other than that, we still are crazy busy here at Discovery.  Today we had two full boats to Koh Tao and 7 students starting their open water courses here at our shop.  The bad news is that there has been no room for me on the boat and that kind of sucks.  I think I will just have to hang out with Scuba Steve a little more for the time being.

The weather hasn’t been perfect lately, but we are hoping for some better weather coming.  We have had cloudy skies and a little bit of wind.  it hasn’t been too much that the waves are too bid, but we do have a little bit of waves at the moment.

Bark at ya later,

Stoli
